1970-qing-bazhong-liubao
1970 Qing Bazhong Liubao

After the late 60's, there was a short period of Liubao being produced by Wuzhou tea factory and branded with a green coloured Ba Zhong character. Shortly after that, in ~1971, 1972 and afterwards the colour of the characters was changed to black. This allows us to date this fairly precisely as at least around the year 1970. The basket code begins with a number 9. In later baskets in the early 1970's this initial number is used to represent the year of production, so it's possible that this basket is from 1969, but we can't say for sure.

We bought this basket around 10 years ago - it came from the collection of the retired owner of an old tin mine in Malaysia. As was common in these old Malaysian tin mines, they had imported liubao tea for the workers and managers in the mines to drink. He still had quite a few baskets of liubao left over in his stock when the tin mine closed.

The storage of this tea has been very good. The tea has nice old flavour, already possessing the medicinal, woody aged flavour that begins to show in teas after ~50 years. There is strong, noticable energy that is very comfortable in body and mind. The fermentation was light, producing a lively, vibrant tea with concentrated character and long aftertaste.
