Prototyping new Yixing Teapots

Prototyping new Yixing Teapots

In the world of Yixing there is a wealth of teapots created over the past 500 years to take inspiration from. Some are more simple and functional, some more elegant, some are purely artistic pieces which have little actual functionality. The majority sit somewhere in-between. While we love simple and functional pots for daily brewing, there's also a beauty in the elegance, and pots which can strike the right balance are perfect for the right occasion.

Prototype of new shape
In the picture above is a prototype of a new shape for us. It's based on a Qing Dynasty original (below), attributed to the famous potter Hui Meng Chun. We've commissioned some of these in a batch of new clay for us. The white knob is just placed on as an example for the photo, but we'll adjust it a bit to more closely resemble the original.
