We asked Senior Master Ma Yong Qiang to do a study on an old Shi Piao made by the famous Qing dynasty potter Chen Man Sheng. The aim was not to create a direct replication of his pot but to draw inspiration on it and combine this feeling with Ma Yong Qiang's personal interpretation of the style. Although apparently simple in shape, there is a lot of nuance to this style - a feminine interpretation of the Shi Piao, which is often very masculine with hard corners and rigid structure. Here Ma Yong Qiang has followed Chen Man Sheng's softer style, with gentle curves, strength coming from the handle with subtle weight of restraint.
We commissioned three of these, fully handmade of course and made from a batch of stone ground aged zini. We have provided EDXRF test reports of this clay showing no additives.
