We occasionally come across interesting pieces in antique markets. The base of this tea boat is made by the People's Porcelain Factory (人民瓷厂), Jingdezhen, dating from around 1985. The Ren Min Ci Chang was a well-known porcelain factory in Jingdezhen, and pieces from this period are particularly interesting.
This piece features highly detailed painting, while the elegant glaze is delicate and relatively rare, making it particularly challenging to produce. When we came across it, we thought it was a very special find.
We wanted to give it a new lease of life and felt that it would make a perfect tea boat. We asked a local coppersmith in Yunnan to hand-hammer a copper lid, adding a central decoration around the water hole.
This is a one of a kind - a new creation to add something special to a tea table.
