2018 Secret Forest Wild White (Malaysia Aged)

Coming from ancient wild (non-Camellia sinensis var. assamica) trees growing in a protected forest in Yunnan, this white tea has been made with care to conserve as much of the natural character of the leaves as possible. The trees are some of the biggest and oldest I've come across, and the environment is pristine. The leaves were picked and gently spread out on bamboo mats to wither and slowly shade dry for several days.

We have been making this white tea since 2017. In 2018, we sent 50 kg back to our Malaysia warehouse for aging.

It was a tough challenge for us, especially with a white tea like this that has to be stored in a very dry environment. We lost half of the teas to the humid Malaysian environment. We had already placed most of them in sealed metal tins, but some tins still did not protect the tea well enough.

The surviving batch of teas turned out amazingly well!  When we opened the tin, overwhelmingly fruity and elegant floral smells packed our noses. The tea has totally transformed to another level.

The flavor is very pure—with ripe fruity and floral notes and a comfortable yet powerful energy. The liquid is silky, smooth, and notably thick. Upon beginning to drink the tea, one may think it is very light, but as the infusions progress and the drinker becomes more sensitive, it's full of flavor, aroma, and character, carrying a strong body feeling as well. It's a truly special white tea!
