Shimenkan is the most sought after tea garden in Mahei. The ancient trees are surrounded by good biodiversity and forest environment and sit on the highest peak in Mahei area.
Good teas come through long term connections and when we visited in October this Mahei farmer was tight of cash since his daughter was getting married. He still had some Spring tea but offered it to us at a discounted price since he needed some cash. In the spring time, this tea was approximately twice the price. This is some of the best new Mahei tea we've come across over the years.
The tea is concentrated and vibrant. With good strength, moderate astringency and bitterness that quickly resolves into a sweet, mouthwatering aftertaste which lingers comfortably on the palette.
This is a very nice tea, at a price that I don't think we'll be able to offer again.
