We occasionally come across interesting pieces in the antique markets. The base of this tea boat is made from an antique Yixing clay pot dating back to early Republic of China period. This is the "Jinding Trademark" (鼎商, Golden Tripod Trademark) base chop, used by Wu Desheng Pottery Store (吴德盛陶器行) during the Republic of China period. Hexagonal pieces like this are quite rare and particularly delicate to make, as they are easily damaged during production. When we came across it, we thought it was a very special find. We wanted to give it a new lease of life, and felt that it would make a perfect tea boat. We asked tinsmith to hand-hammer a lid using tin, adding a centre decoration for the water hole.
This is a one of a kind - a new creation to add something special to a tea table.
Approx: 19cm diameter, 5cm height, Approx 650ml Vol
