This tea was a bit of a gamble for us when we made it back in 2014. It was from a very remote and undeveloped village & the processing was quite rudimentary - giving it a smokey flavour.
Nonetheless, the trees were healthy, old, hadn't been overpicked and agrochemicals had never been used. The base material of the tea was vibrant and thick & we felt that it would be a tea that would age well.
After years in our Malaysian warehouse, I'm happy to say that our instincts were correct - the smokiness has gone, leaving a tea that is progressing very nicely. It thick and rich, with a long lasting aftertaste, oily consistency and very nice energy. This tea is very nice to drink.

Very easy going semi-aged tea
"I bought this to bulk up my order of Boundless to reach the free shipping threshold! I really made the order specifically for Boundless, but this tea impressed me just as much. The dry leaves do have a camphor aroma, which is often off-putting for me - I don't like my tea to be dominated by it. I put my first impressions to one side and really enjoyed it. The taste is really smooth and it's a quite oily tea. It is not one dimensional at all, and the camphor slides into the background, which is just where I like it. There is a bit of warm spice to this as well. I'm not saying this is a cheap tea, but I do think it punches above its weight!"

Tea for aging
"The first time I drank this tea I did not like it, there was a strong smokiness which was capturing all feelings, I have then put this cake on a side to be forgotten, years have now passed and I am happy and surprise to see how this tea has turned out. The good news now is that smokiness is almost totally gone under the European climate, there is a great astringency which conbines with the little hint of smokiness left that make this tea very complex, I expect this astringency that I like to transform as well over the coming years. Without a doubt, this tea is great. I enjoy this tea session very much, this is a cake that I am gonna dig in every two or three years because I suspect it will age very well. It is nonetheless very good to be drunken now."

Strong Fruit
"Smoky, yes. But its already aging out here in the west. This is a tea hitting far above its price. Thick, complex, with the taste of pandan and nutmeg."
