We've been on the hunt for a nice Zhengshan Xiaozhong for a while now. Authentic Zhengshan Xiaozhong such as this comes from Wuyishan's TongmuGuan (桐木关). In 2021 there was a comprehensive ban on logging and transporting pine wood in this area, making authentic tea smoked with local pine wood more scarce these days.
The production of this tea was overseen by the same producer who makes our Wudi Hongcha and 2024 Wild Leaf Rou Gui. It is produced from old trees in Tong Mu Guan growing without agrochemicals & smoked over pine wood in the traditional manner. It has been left to rest for the stronger flavours of the smoke to dissipate and integrate into the tea.
This is thick and rich in the mouth with a very nice balanced smokey character. This is a lovely example of this traditional smoked black tea & is lovely for sipping on a cold day.
